Chelsea suffered their seventh defeat of the Premier League campaign after somehow falling 1-0 to Stoke City on Saturday night.
Despite Jose Mourinho's enforced absence due to his stadium ban, the visitors were in the ascendency for the vast majority of the game and should have run out as comfortable winners. They were guilty of not making the most of their dominance.
Stoke began the second half in a more positive fashion, having been camped in their own half for much of the opening 45 minutes but still threatened little. So when Marko Arnautovic's goal came, it felt like a sucker punch and indicative of Chelsea's bad fortune this season.
The Blues reacted well after falling behind and pressed relentlessly in search of an equaliser. Even so, they were unable to create too many clear chances, something that has been a constant thorn in Chelsea's campaign.
They should still have been awarded a penalty when substitute Loic Remy was clearly impeded by Jack Butland after rounding the goalkeeper; his honesty punished after he tried to stay on his feet rather than go to ground.
Surely Chelsea's luck must change soon.
