Three quick things from Barcelona's 4-0 romp over Real Madrid on Saturday afternoon in the Clasico at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.
1. Barcelona are the best team in Spain and maybe Europe
Luis Suarez (two), Neymar, Andres Iniesta were all on the score sheet as Barcelona absolutely steamrollered a sorry Real Madrid team to take full control of the La Liga title race.
The result means Barcelona are now six points ahead of Madrid atop of the table -- and Los Blancos could slip to third on Sunday should Atletico Madrid win at Real Betis.
The lesson from the game was that Barca are clearly the best team in Spain at the moment and maybe in Europe. Last year's Treble winners began the 2015-16 season in dodgy form but have quickly found their way and totally outclassed a shockingly poor Madrid side this evening.
Both first-half goals were superb finishes from Barca's two in-form frontmen and perhaps the two best players in the world at the moment. Suarez was coolness personified as he flicked Sergi Roberto's pass into the net for the opener. Neymar was also perfectly calm and composed as he latched onto Iniesta's assist to easily finish past Real goalkeeper Keylor Navas.
Barca's third goal was another stunner, with Neymar's backheel assist being swept into the top left corner from 15 yards out by Iniesta. This was just the midfielder's third Clasico goal, in his 33rd game against Madrid, and first asBlaugrana club captain. The veteran does not score many, but he sure can pick his moments -- and deserved his ovation from the otherwise angry Bernabeu crowd when taken off late on after completing 66 of his 69 attempted passes.
Suarez's second of the game made it 4-0. It was at that point when the very few visiting fans at the Bernabeu, and especially Barcelona centre-back Gerard Pique, were hoping for a famous 'manita' 5-0 scoreline, which has such meaning throughout history in this fixture.
Time ran out on that hope, but even still this was a day when everything came up Barca.
